Brave and optimistic. That’s what plucky means. It’s what we are aiming for, every moment.
A few months ago it hit me that we were tired and busy. All the time. We rushed everywhere, as if that were something to aspire to. We hurried to school, to work, to the shops, back to the suburbs, to dinner and to sleep. Existing.
I kept thinking there must be something better out there for us. It was a quiet voice in the back of my head whispering “this isn’t right.” It wasn’t a disaster. It didn’t feel like the world was about to come crashing down around us. It was totally maintainable. More like that nagging worry that you have left the hair straightener on*. And I was too tired and busy to think about it.
Until suddenly, it was all I could think about.
And so here we are. Two plucky girls. We have sold or given away all our stuff – from a three bedroom townhouse to what fits in our car – and we are starting off with a road trip around Australia. From there, who knows?
We are probably still going to be tired, but it will be because we are exploring beaches, discovering islands, hiking through rainforests, learning about sloths, volcanos, origami and the big dipper. Tired and happy.
And you can do it too. You don’t have to do what we are doing. This is just what makes us sparkle.
Find what makes you sparkle. Do that.
And take the trip. Always take the trip. We are writing about life on the road, the delights and disasters of single parent travel, holidays with kids, amazing destinations for families and a little bit of worldschooling thrown in for good measure as we find our way through this amazing adventure. Book it in.
